Classes at Western will be dismissed on Monday, Feb. 15 for President's Day. Classes will resume on Tuesday, Feb. 16.

The WOSC Pool will be closed next week until chemical imbalances have been corrected.  All lessons and classes at the pool have been canceled until then.

All students are to return for class on Monday Feb. 8th 2010.

Also ACT testing will be held this Saturday Feb. 6th.

Due to the updated weather conditions, WOSC will also be closed Friday, Jan. 29, 2010.

All classes will be cancelled and school offices will be closed.

Every spring, the members of the U.S. House of Representatives sponsor a nation-wide arts competition among high school students. Each state has one winner from every congressional district, and all winners have their art featured in the Cannon Tunnel, the walkway between the House office buildings and the U.S. Capitol.

The WOSC spring musical was announced Monday, Jan. 11, by Karla Shelby, music instructor and musical director at WOSC. This year's production will be "All Shook Up," a musical based around the many hit songs of Elvis Presley.

Auditions are open to any WOSC student, and will take place next week on Wednesday, Jan. 20, from 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 21, from 12:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m., and Friday, Jan. 22, from 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.

With its recent opening of the Cooperative Higher Education and Training Center, Western Oklahoma State College has many walls to fill. WOSC is asking the community to help create a "History Wall" in the new building.

WOSC is hosting a free holiday concert Saturday, Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. Sounds of the Season, held in the Herschal H. Crow Fine Arts Auditorium, is a concert that features musical performances of some of the best known holiday music along with some newer tunes.

Western is offering a series of 10-day online Winter Intersession courses for Fall 2009 credit.

National Radiologic Technology Week is Nov. 8-14. It is an annual celebration initiated by the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) to commemorate the discovery of the x-ray by Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen on November 8, 1895.

Members of Western's baseball team helped distribute sacks to homes throughout Altus Saturday, Nov. 7.

Fulbright Scholars from both Israel and India visited Western Oklahoma State College Tuesday, Nov. 3 and Wednesday, Nov. 4.

Mike McBrayer was recently hired as Western's new softball coach. McBrayer comes to Altus from Ada, Okla., where he coached baseball at East Central University.

Western Oklahoma State College has added military studies as an option under the Associate of Applied Science in Applied Technology degree.

Under new direction, Western is expanding it current pool program, as well as offering new levels of training.

Western Oklahoma State College continues to see a pattern of enrollment growth over the past year. Currently, fall enrollment for 2009 is up 10 percent from last year.

On Friday, March 6, students from Western Oklahoma State College's Nursing department held a city-wide health fair at the Altus Community Center. Those in attendance were given free blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood glucose tests. Participants also received free pedometers, healthy snacks, and bottled water.

Oklahoma Upward Bound Student Leadership Conference was held February 27 and 28, 2009 at the Sheridan Hotel/Reed Center in Midwest City. The conference was hosted by WOSC's Upward Bound program.

Western Oklahoma State College invites the public to a community watch party for "Crystal Darkness," a 28-minute documentary emphasizing the frightening truth about methamphetamine's attack on youth and their families, Tuesday, Jan. 13.

Western Oklahoma State College is offering an American Red Cross Life Guard certification class Saturday mornings, beginning Jan. 17 at 9:00 a.m.

Michael Simmons will present his story of the ups and downs of his career as an entrepreneur Nov. 5 at 10 a.m. in the Fine Arts Auditorium at Western Oklahoma State College. All area high school and college students are invited to attend and admission is free.

Ruth Mesa, secretary for technical programs was recently awarded first place in creative staff innovations by the Oklahoma Association of Community Colleges.

On Friday, Oct. 24, WOSC students, faculty, and staff showed their love and support of the troops. Several students and members of the staff and faculty met in the student center and filled 110 green WOSC backpacks with more than 2000 food, toiletry and entertainment items.

The Oklahoma Blood Institute will be on campus Monday, October 27 from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. for a blood drive in the student center. A bedlam t-shirt will be given to each donor. and they will also be given a chance to win the drawing for a $50 gas card. All are invited to participate.

Candidates for Oklahoma House of Representatives District 52, Dan McMahan, Democrat, and Charles Ortega, Republican, addressed a packed-house in the WOSC Student Center on Monday, October 20.
