History is the core of a liberal arts education. It is the record, explanation and
interpretation of the human experience through time. History examines the growth
of political organizations; the development of economic, social, and religious institutions;
and the course of literary, cultural, and intellectual movements. It gives perspective and
deeper meaning to current events by examining their roots in the past. History prepares
the student with the research, writing, and analytical skills needed by virtually all other
fields of study. A degree in history will aid students interested in education, law,
journalism, scientific and technical disciplines, public service and business
administration.
