The Western Oklahoma State College Department of Nursing Education
accepts applications for entry into the program each spring.
Applications will be available the first of February each year.
Students interested in applying for the program are encouraged to
obtain an application packet as soon as possible and start completing
the application process.
All students applying for the program will be required to have a
criminal history check through the Oklahoma State Bureau of
Investigation, and all LPN students applying will be required to have
a fingerprint check from the Federal Bureau of Investigation. These
must be turned in with the application on May 15. Students should be
aware that the background and fingerprint checks can take up to eight
weeks to obtain. Students with incomplete application packets will not
be considered for admission into the program.
The following pre-requisite courses must be completed before
students can be accepted into the nursing program.
- Human Anatomy with lab
- General Chemistry with lab
- College Algebra
Additional pre-requisites for LPN’s
- Human Physiology with lab
- Microcomputer Applications
- General Psychology
All applicants will be required to take a pre-nursing exam.
This exam is given each year from on various dates from mid April
through mid May. The exam is administered from both the Altus and
Lawton campus sites on scheduled dates. Exam payment information
can be obtained from the Department of Nursing office at the
Western Oklahoma State College campus in Altus or Lawton.
Students will be accepted into the program on a point system
basis. Points are given for the following areas: scores on the
nursing examination, cumulative grade point average, required
curriculum completed and the grades students received in those
courses.
