What is Radiologic Technology?
Radiologic Technology (RT) is the medical application of ionizing radiation for the purpose of diagnosing medical conditions. The RT Program is a two-year structured program utilizing classroom instruction and hands-on clinical experiences at designated area hospitals. After successful completion of the required curriculum, students will be awarded the Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree. The graduate will then be eligible to challenge the ARRT National Registry Examination in Radiography in order to become a registered radiologic technologist.

There are many career opportunities available for the radiologic technologist.

They include, ultrasonography, mammography, nuclear medicine, MRI, CT, PET, cardiovascular intervention, radiation therapy, education and management. Also, OU and Midwestern State University offer BS degrees in radiology.

How do I apply?
Because of the limited clinical spaces available, admission to the program is highly competitive.

Priority consideration for acceptance will be given to students who have completed all support courses and most general education requirements.

Applications are available online or in the program director's office during the spring semester.

How do I prepare?
Students interested in the radiology program usually attend one year of college before applying to the rad tech program.

Most students need General Biology as the pre-requisite to Human Anatomy. If the student has a score of 21 or above on their science component of their ACT test, then the student does not need to enroll in General Biology.

During their freshman year in the fall semester, students enroll in General Biology and nine hours of General Education courses. Then in the spring semester, the student enrolls in Human Anatomy and nine more hours of General Education courses. The completion of Human Anatomy with a C or above is required by the last Friday in May.

We also highly recommend the completion of Medical Terminology before applying to the program. The student must earn the grade of a C or above in Medical Terminology as well.
