Sociology is the scientific study of human social institutions and behavior. Sociologists
study social interactions and socializations, patterns of social change, and the evolution
of social structures. A degree in sociology provides a foundation for further
professional training in such fields as law, social and health services, education, and
criminal justice. In conjunction with a liberal arts education, an emphasis in sociology
gives students a better understanding of the challenging issues of our times and the
training and knowledge to enrich their own lives while positively impacting the lives of
others.
