PREREQUISITES: Beginning Keyboarding/Formatting or equivalent, word processing, or instructor’s permission

CATALOG DESCRIPTION:
Provides comprehensive coverage and integration of business skills and issues, develops critical thinking and problem solving skills, and establishes a foundation in business procedures. Provides an understanding of the roles of administrative support personnel, employment skills, office health and safety issues, organization and time management, records management, information and communications systems, national and international communications, meeting and travel planning, reprographics, and report and presentations research and development are included. 48 lecture hours, 0 lab hours.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:
After completing this course, the student should be able to:

COURSE REQUIREMENTS:
1.0 Reading: Students read textbooks, handouts, and supplementary readings as required by the instructor.
2.0 Class Participation: Students participate in class discussions and group presentations.
3.0 Writing: Students will be required to plan and compose a variety of business documents expected of the administrative office assistant.
4.0 Testing: Students are required to take a minimum of three exams.
METHOD OF EVALUATION:
Instructors must provide class information sheets (class syllabus) which specify course requirements. Class information sheets must clearly state the instructor’s method of evaluation.
ATTENDANCE POLICY:
Although attendance may not be used in the determination of grades, regular attendance is expected. Class information sheets must clearly state the instructor’s attendance policy.
