Dr. Randy Smith holds a B.A in Political Science from Montana
State University, an M.S. in Emergency Health Services
Administration from the University of Maryland Baltimore County, and
a Ph.D. in Higher Education Leadership from Touro University. His
research interests are recruitment and retention of students at
rural community colleges, and leadership in higher education. He
completed a dissertation entitled: Factors Influencing a Student’s
Decision to Enroll at a Rural Two-Year College. Dr. Smith is a
frequent presenter at state and national conferences on the topics
of leadership in higher education and student recruitment and
retention. He has been a Nationally Registered Paramedic for 15
years. He has also published and spoken widely on many topics in the
area of patient care and emergency services at national conferences.
He has served as a faculty member in the Emergency Health Services
Department at the University of Maryland.
Randy enjoys serving in the community and has held several positions
including board chairman for a county hospital district, volunteer
fire fighter and paramedic, member of a municipal police commission,
boy scout troop committee chairman, and he is currently completing
training to become a reserve officer for the Altus, OK police
department.
Originally from Belgrade, Montana he is married to Tricia who is
a music teacher for the Altus, OK Public Schools and they have two
daughters Shayne and Emily. He is an avid sports fan. Additionally,
he enjoys playing basketball, working with horses, fly fishing,
rodeo, hunting and all outdoor activities.
