Learning Resources and Telecommunications Center
Located at the northeast corner of the main entrance, the LRTC
covers approximately 30,000 square feet and offers access to both
the Learning Resources Center (LRC) and the distance-learning
environment. State-of-the-art distance education and information
technology is utilized providing students with optimal educational
opportunities.
Interactive Television
The newest electronic technology being used for classes is two-way,
full-motion video. Western is a member of networks, including OneNet,
which joins the college with other participating institutions of
higher learning, area vocational-technical schools and high schools.
This network allows students and teachers at each site to see and
hear each other. Students desiring information concerning courses
and programs being offered on this network may contact the distance
learning office.
Telecourses
Western offers courses via Oklahoma’s public television network,
OETA. Each telecourses consists of high-quality video lessons, a
textbook or books, and a study guide. A Western faculty member is
assigned to each course and handles assignments and exams. On-campus
attendance is limited, usually to four or five required visits
during the semester. Two video lessons are broadcast each week and
videotapes of the lessons are available for viewing in the LRC.
Telecourses are an effective and convenient alternative to regular
campus offerings for students who need a flexible schedule or who
have difficulty coming to the college on a weekly basis. For more
information contact the distance learning office.
Learning Resources Center (LRC)
The LRC houses a collection of over 32,000 print and non-print
resources. Computers, printers, study rooms and copy machines are
available for student use. On-line research databases, Internet,
email, interlibrary loan, and professional reference assistance are
a few of the services provided to support student research.
Individual and small group instruction is available in the areas of
Internet use, research skills, general library orientation, and
other topics as needed, to enhance student learning. Students are
required to have a valid student ID to check out materials. For more
information regarding library policies and procedures, visit our web
