Cody McAskill, trumpet, and Kris Ducharme, baritone,
were selected to participate in the Oklahoma All-College Band.
McAskill and Ducharme earned this honor in competition against
four-year and graduate students for positions in the Oklahoma
All-College Band, according to Western’s band director, Gary
Gardner.
Gardner said that only two other community colleges participated in
the competition, and that more than 100 students representing 19
public and private colleges and universities from Oklahoma were
selected.
Contestants received rehearsal music in December and then auditioned
for chairs in January at the Tulsa convention.
The Oklahoma All-College Band performed for the Oklahoma Music
Educators Association. Pieces performed included “Carnival” by Paul
Basler, “O Magnum Mysterium” by Lauridsen/Reynolds, “Southern
Harmony” by Donald Grantham, “Medium Funk Prelude” by Paul Richards,
and “Dance of the Jester” by Tchaikovsky/Cramer.
This was Western’s first year to participate in the Oklahoma
All-College Band competition.
