Western Oklahoma State College hosted its first
community service fair Monday, October 29, from 10 a.m. to 12:30
p.m. in the student center.
The community service fair showcased local and campus non-profit
organizations and provided service learning opportunities and other
benefits for students, faculty, and the community.
Disaster service director John Valenzuela was at the event
representing the American Red Cross. "I think it’s great that we can
be here to give our community information about what is available to
them and let them know that helping the community is a great think
to do," said Valenzuela.
Debbie Nobles of ASPIRE said, "this fair was wonderful. It allowed
the presenters to have contact with the students and staff at WOSC.
It also gave the presenters a chance to connect and share the
services we have available."
Participating organizations were WINDS, Southwestern Youth Services,
Upward Bound, Great Plains Literacy Council, APS Mentor Program,
Altus Armed Services YMCA, Pathways Pregnancy Resource Center, ACMI
House, ASPIRE, SW Community Action Group Inc., Cimarron Valley
Therapeutic Services, American Red Cross, and Habitat for Humanity.
