Western Oklahoma State College recently celebrated a
significant expansion in its nursing program with an open house at
the Duncan Regional Center Learning Center.
There, nursing students gave tours and demonstrations in their new
classrooms. The DRH Learning Center features interactive classrooms
and state-of-the-art equipment, including artificial patients
capable of exhibiting a pulse, respiration and other vital signs for
students to practice monitoring skills.
The interactive television (ITV) classrooms in Duncan serve 22
freshmen and 24 sophomores enrolled in Western’s associate degree,
registered nursing, (RN) program. In addition, students from the
University of Oklahoma work on bachelor degrees in nursing at the
DRH Learning Center.
Later that evening, the celebration continued at the Simmons Center.
The Night ‘N Gala event was a recognition, award, and fundraising
dinner where various awards were presented to longtime nurses in the
Duncan community.
Additionally, Western student Rachelle Pool was awarded the Jack
Cohen Memorial Scholarship.
