Western’s WINDS program is a student support services program
designed to meet the special needs of the student. WINDS is
federally funded by a TRIO grant. The main emphasis of the program
is to provide an environment in which students can receive
assistance in meeting their academic, personal, career, and social
needs. The program goal is to improve the retention and graduation
rate of targeted students at Western. To qualify for the WINDS
program, the student must be enrolled at Western and have a
documented academic need.
In addition, the student must be a first-generation college student,
financially disadvantaged, or disabled. WINDS participants enjoy
free services such as academic advisement, career counseling,
extensive tutorial assistance, cultural field trips, and academic
and informational workshops. WINDS students also enjoy a student
lounge where they can study.
