ALTUS, Okla. – Sponsors of Western Oklahoma State College's World Wide Western student organization had the privilege of accompanying six international students to the Oklahoma State Capitol on February 25 for International Student Recognition Day.

Attending students included Brook Lyn Kosick (Canada), Steve Tatsiguia (Cameroon, Africa), Ryo Nagahama (Japan), Brana Thomson (Canada), and Stephen Semey (Ghana). They were also joined by Miguel Clemente, a Western graduate currently enrolled at the University of Central Oklahoma. Sponsors Cynthia Barker and Solveig Feller also attended, supporting the students throughout the experience.

All of the attending students originally came to the United States to compete in collegiate athletics. Rodeo student Brook Kosick reflected on the experience, saying, "My favorite part was hearing the stories and experiences of the other students. None of them had come to the U.S. for sports, and we were the only junior college there. Most of the students were much older than me, so it was really interesting to hear their perspectives."

As part of the event, each student will receive a Citation of Recognition certificate, acknowledging their participation and contributions as international students in Oklahoma.

The event brought together international students from colleges across the state to meet with representatives, tour the Capitol, and share their experiences studying in Oklahoma.

Western extends a special thank you to Representative Gerrid Kendrix for taking the time to visit with our students. Appreciation also goes out to everyone who helped make this event a meaningful and memorable experience.
