Western Oklahoma State College has named freshman nursing instructor Jamie Ferrell as the 2026 Teacher of the Year.

Ferrell teaches at Western’s Lawton campus and was selected through a student-driven nomination process. The entire student body was invited to nominate instructors for the honor, with nominations then reviewed by Student Senate before the final selection was made.

Students praised Ferrell for her dedication, compassion, and commitment to student success.

“She is an instructor who takes great pride in everything she says, does, and has. There's not a day where we do not learn something new from her,” one student shared in their nomination.

Another student wrote, “She has helped a lot with pushing students to continue with their education and not give up.”

Additional comments highlighted Ferrell’s ability to connect with students and ensure they fully understand course material.

“This teacher has been the best teacher I've ever had,” another nom ination stated. “She deserves to be Teacher of the Year because of how well she treats her students, how well she explains all the information, and how she goes above and beyond to make sure we understand. I think she is very deserving of this award because she always puts her students first.”

Western Oklahoma State College congratulates Mrs. Jamie Ferrell on this well-deserved recognition and thanks her for the impact she continues to make on students both inside and outside the classroom
