The 36th Annual WOSC Foundation, Inc. Jim Holland Memorial Golf Tournament was held Saturday, August 8, 2026, at the Western Heritage Golf Club in Altus.
This year’s event generated $21,800.00 in additional funds for the Jim Holland Memorial Scholarship Endowment, pushing the endowment total to $447,500. The interest earned from this fund provides ongoing scholarship support for students of Western Oklahoma State College.
After an exciting three-way tie, the Frazer Bank team claimed the 2026 championship in a tiebreaker over Big Dog Sportswear and Southern Grounds Lawn and Landscape. The winning team included Kyle McMahan, Dallas Wiginton, Spencer Drury, and Braddock Abernathy.
In addition to 18 holes of competitive play, golfers participated in mini-competitions throughout the course. Nine prize-hole winners each received a dozen Titleist PROV1x golf balls, while at the 8th hole, players had the chance to win an extra sleeve of golf balls for hitting the green from the tee box.
Over the past 36 years, the tournament has evolved from a father-and-son tradition to one that now spans multiple generations. More than a golf event, it is a celebration of fellowship, family, scholarships, and a remarkable 36-year heritage on the same course. The tournament holds special meaning for the Holland family. Jay Holland, son of the late Jim Holland, was just 24 when he played in the first tournament honoring his father. Today, Jay continues that tradition by playing alongside his son, Carter, and his son-in-law, Shannon Kyle. The tradition is already extending to the next generation, as Jim’s great-grandchildren will soon be old enough to join in the fun. For the Holland family, the tournament is more than an annual golf outing; it is a special way to honor Jim’s memory, celebrate family, and continue the legacy he left behind.
The event’s long-standing success is due to the generosity of local businesses, loyal friends, and former students of Jim Holland. Linda Holland Copeland, who has never missed a tournament, says she is always moved by the community’s continued support.
The Golf Ball Drop provided an exciting finale to the day. In the weeks leading up to the tournament, 100 golf ball tickets were sold for $100 each. Half of the proceeds benefit the Jim Holland Scholarship Endowment, while the other half goes to the winning ball(s) that landed in the hole or is the closest to the hole.
Adding to the generosity of the day, the winner of the Golf Ball Drop chose to donate the proceeds back to the WOSC Foundation. The donor wishes to remain anonymous, but their generosity will provide additional support for the Foundation’s mission and Western students.
