The Western Oklahoma State College Shooting Sports Team is the recipient of a cash grant from the MidwayUSA Foundation to assist with expenses such as ammunition, targets, competition entry fees, travel, administrative fees, and more.
Established in 2019, the Western Shooting Sports Team has quickly built a strong reputation for excellence in collegiate shooting sports. The program provides Western students with the opportunity to compete at the regional and national levels while developing skills in teamwork, discipline, responsibility, and sportsmanship.
Under the leadership of Coach Jerimy Pence, the team has achieved significant success at the national level. Western has competed in the ACUI Collegiate Division IV Clay Target Association (CAA) National Championships, earning national recognition in each of the past several years.
The team was the 2023 ACUI Division IV CAA National Champion and followed that success with another national championship in 2024. In 2025 and 2026, Western continued its strong performance, finishing as the ACUI Division IV CAA Runner-Up National Champion both years.
The team competes in shooting sports competitions throughout the region and provides students with opportunities to travel, compete alongside other collegiate athletes, and represent Western Oklahoma State College on the national stage.
Thanks to the generous contribution from Glen and Linda Winters, combined with matching dollars provided through the generosity of Larry and Brenda Potterfield, a total of $30,000 was added to Western Oklahoma State College’s Shooting Sports endowment with the MidwayUSA Foundation. This significant investment will provide continued support for the team and help ensure opportunities for Western students to participate and compete in shooting sports for years to come. Western is deeply grateful to Mr. Winters and the Potterfields for their commitment to the success and future of the Shooting Sports Team.

Building the MidwayUSA Foundation endowment is crucial to the future of youth shooting sports and, specifically, to the Western Shooting Sports Team. Each year, Western’s program is eligible to receive 5% of its endowment balance as a cash grant, providing ongoing support for the team. As the endowment grows, so does the annual grant available to help fund the program.
The support is particularly valuable for a competitive program like Western Shooting Sports, where expenses associated with ammunition, targets, entry fees, and travel can add up quickly. The MidwayUSA Foundation grant and endowment provide resources that help the team continue competing at a high level while creating opportunities for Western students to participate in the sport.
Those interested in supporting the Western Shooting Sports Team can make a tax-deductible donation to its MidwayUSA Foundation endowment. Donations made directly to the team are eligible for MidwayUSA Foundation’s matching program, allowing donors to further increase the impact of their gifts.
