ADMISSION

General Students and LPN-to-RN Students

 

Applications are extended until May 10th for August entry, 2024.

If you applied early for the nursing program for Fall 2024, you should receive notification by April 30, 2024.

Traditional track:  The following campuses will be accepting students for the nursing program that will start FALL 2024:

  • Altus
  • Elk City

LPN-to-RN track:  Students applying for this track may choose the following:

  • Online LPN-to-RN program with clinical rotations in Altus, Elk City, Lawton, or Duncan.
  • Traditional track:  Start Nursing 2229 in Fall 2024 with face-to-face classes at Altus or Elk City campuses.  (Clinical rotations in Altus, Elk City, Lawton, or Duncan).

Preadmission Nursing Entrance Testing

Preadmission Nursing Exam (HESI A2 with Critical Thinking Exam) is proctored and administered via ProctorU by approval from the Nursing Education Department. 

Applicants interested in scheduling and taking the exam, please email nursing@wosc.edu with your request and contact information.  

 

HESI A2  with Critical Thinking Preadmission Testing opens annually in the spring semester.

Students interested in taking the HESI Nursing entrance exam will:

1. Pay for the HESI exam through ProctorU. Contact nursing@wosc.edu for further information.

2. To schedule the exam through ProctorU with nursing invite. Contact nursing@wosc.edu for further instructions. 

Note the nursing department business hours: Monday thru Fridays except on holidays, from 9am - 3:30pm.

 


 

 

LPN to RN Mobility Exam for Advanced Standing LPN's

For LPNs seeking entrance into the LPN-to-RN program, you will no longer be required to take the HESI LPN-to-RN Mobility Exam in order to get credit for Nursing 1129.  You still need to meet all requirements for the general student, but you do not need to take the additional testing as an LPN.  On February 28, 2024, a memorandum of understanding was signed by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education and Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education with Governor Stitt.   In this agreement, colleges are no longer requiring extra testing for LPNs who are pursuing degrees for nursing towards the RN licensure. 
 

The WOSC Nursing Program is approved by the Oklahoma Board of Nursing and is accredited by the National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation. Upon graduation, students are qualified to take the NCLEX-RN (National Council Licensure Examination for RN).

For fall start, LPN-to-RN program options include:

  • Online LPN-to-RN Program-For this option, nursing courses will be taught online in an asynchronous format.  Clinical rotations will be conducted one day each week as assigned at one of the clinical sites utilized by Western.  The student must be able to attend clinical rotations as assigned. The student student must also be able to attend orientations to clinical sites before the rotations begin.  ALSO:  Students must take the LPN-to-RN transition course in Summer.  This is a four-week course that is a hybrid course, meaning most coursework will be completed online but will require the student to attend three days, schedule to be announced.  
  • Face-to-face options:  The student may select the face-to-face option at the Lawton campus or the Elk City campus, if space is available.  Class times are Monday and Thursday from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon each week.  Clinical rotations will be conducted one day each week as assigned at one of the clinical sites utilized by Western.  The student must be able to attend clinical rotations as assigned. The student student must also be able to attend orientations to clinical sites before the rotations begin.   ALSO:  Students must take the LPN-to-RN transition course in Summer.  This is a four-week course that is a hybrid course, meaning most coursework will be completed online but will require the student to attend three days, schedule to be announced.  

For spring start, LPN-to-RN options available:

  • Face-to-face option:  For the student who does not wish to take the HESI LPN-to-RN Mobility Exam or who does not meet the minimum scores on that exam can opt to begin Nursing II (Pediatrics and Maternal/Newborn Nursing) in January 2024.  This option will be available in Altus, Elk City, and Lawton campuses, if space is available. Class times are Monday and Thursday from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon each week.  Clinical rotations will be conducted one day each week as assigned at one of the clinical sites utilized by Western.  The student must be able to attend clinical rotations as assigned.  ALSO:  Students must take the LPN-to-RN transition course in Fall.  This is a four-week course that is a hybrid course, meaning most coursework will be completed online but will require the student to attend three days, schedule to be announced. 

 

APPLYING

Application Process & Information:

Please read the Nursing Application carefully. Anyone wishing to be considered for admission to the nursing program must complete a new application.

Application packets must be completed to be considered form admission and MUST include:

  • HESI A2 with Critical Thinking preadmission transcripts with applicable scores
  • Copies of High School Diploma/GED transcript(s)
  • Copies of all colleges attended transcripts
  • Academic Success Entrance Essay
  • Two completed WOSC Professional Reference Forms
  • Supporting documents as indicated in application packet for preferential points
  • Optional additional items required for Advanced Standing Entry
      • LPN Mobility Exam Transcript(s) with appropriate scores
      • Copy of LPN License & License Verification

Incomplete applications WILL NOT be considered.

Per the Director of Admissions: Students will need to turn in official college transcripts from all colleges you have attended including Cameron University. Only original transcripts will be accepted at WOSC Admission Office. Electronic transcripts for WOSC Admission office send to records@wosc.edu. Do not provide copies. Students are NOT required to submit official WOSC transcripts and college transcripts to the nursing department if they official copies are on file with WOSC Admissions & Registrar's office. Unofficial college transcripts will be acceptable for the nursing application if all official transcripts are on file and transcribed on the WOSC unofficial college transcript.
