Western Oklahoma State College’s Nursing Department welcomed students to campus on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, for the annual Nursing Boot Camp. The one-day event gave freshman, LPN, and sophomore nursing students an engaging and hands-on start to the semester, blending skill-building activities, orientation, and community-building experiences.

Students began the day at the Pioneer Heritage Center with sign-in, name tags, and student ID opportunities, followed by an introduction to Elsevier 360 training. Sophomore students then participated in a series of rotating sessions designed to refresh essential skills, including Kahoots learning games, “MI Escape” in the computer lab, “Do you remember how…?” in the skills lab, and “Stayin’ Alive” in the freshman classroom.

The afternoon featured presentations from Clinical Coordinator Bridget White, Western Foundation’s Janna Davis, and Clinical Instructor Diane Fairchild, who encouraged students to develop strong study habits and strategies for success. Students also enjoyed special games, giveaways, and the chance to connect with peers and faculty before classes officially begin on Thursday, August 14.

Lunch was provided thanks to the generosity of community and campus partners. Western extends appreciation to Southwest Tax & Bookkeeping, Inc. for providing pizza, Western’s nursing faculty and staff for preparing desserts, and Pioneer Dining for supplying beverages.

Western Oklahoma State College is proud to support its nursing students with opportunities to prepare, plan, and persevere as they embark on the 2025–26 academic year.
