The Darlene Bock Scholarship was initiated by Darlene Bock, a long-time educator at Altus Junior College / Western Oklahoma State College. Darlene taught for more than 25 years and "loved every day of it!" The intent of the scholarship is to support students who share this same
passion for teaching. The scholarship is awarded to a student from southwest Oklahoma, graduating from Western with a minimum 3.0 GPA and pursuing a degree in education.

This year's recipient was Kayla Peeler. Kayla graduated from Western in December 2022 and is currently attending Southwestern Oklahoma State University, pursuing an education degree. Once she completes her bachelor's degree, she plans to pursue her master's degree in school counseling to be a high school counselor.
