What is an Ambassador?

What is a Western Ambassador?
The Western Oklahoma State College student Ambassador program was established in 2001. They are under the official sponsorship of the president of the college. Their mission is to promote the college through a variety of speaking engagements and special events. Western Ambassadors personally benefit by gaining leadership and public speaking training and experiences.

Selected students will be awarded a 12 hour tuition waiver as well as a $250 scholarship per semester, which can be used for any college expense: tuition, books, dorm, etc. Selected students will also be provided with the official Western Ambassador polo shirt, WOSC t-shirt, and nametag.

Selection
Applications will be reviewed and selections for interviews will be determined by members of the selection committee.

Representatives of Western Oklahoma State College, consisting of faculty, professional staff      and administration, will select individuals through an interview process to participate in Boot Camp.

Boot Camp is a 4 hour meeting consisting of team building activities.  During Boot Camp candidates and returning Ambassadors are observed to see how well they work as a team in a variety of situations.  At the end of Boot Camp Western Ambassadors will be selected.

Alternates may be selected and may be called on to serve if an active Ambassador resigns or is removed.

The ideal Ambassador makes good grades, is involved in several organizations and/or extracurricular activities, is personable and outgoing, and takes pride in his/ her appearance. Special consideration will be given to students who live in Altus because living near campus is ideal. It is the best way to stay involved with campus activities.
