Agriculture Industries [option] Certificate

The Agriculture Industries certificate program is designed to provide students in-depth agriculture industry and agri-business knowledge to apply to their own operations or launch a career in the agriculture industry. This certificate program prepares students to enter workforce upon graduation and is not intended for university transfer; however, some agriculture courses will count toward an Associate’s degree at WOSC and/or a Bachelor’s degree at a 4-year institution. The Associate of Applied Science degree in Applied Technology at Western Oklahoma State College is designed for individuals that have industry recognized credentials in their chosen career field. The Aviation option allows individuals to utilize industry credentials and pair them with general education and guided electives in technical related courses to earn a degree. This degree would allow individuals to work in an aviation position that requires at least an associate degree along with industry credentials.

Behavioral Science Associate in Arts

Biology [option] Associate in Arts

This Associate in Science Degree program is designed to meet the needs of students to continue studies at a four-year university or professional college in the biological, physical, health-related sciences, and mathematics. Biological sciences fields include agriculture, botany, zoology, ecology, microbiology, forestry, physiology, and environmental science. Physical science fields include geology, astronomy, meteorology, physical, and occupational therapy. Mathematics fields include accountant, actuary, engineer, teacher, economist, financial auditor and consumer loan/credit officer.

Business Management Associate in Applied Science

The Business Management program at Western Oklahoma State College is committed to providing coursework to allow a student a successful entrance to the workforce with an entry-level management position. Students are able to customize the degree through guided electives to better prepare them for the workforce area they plan to enter.

Child Development Associate in Applied Science

The child development program is designed for the student who plans to enter the job force immediately. After successful completion of the required curriculum, you will receive an Associate in Applied Science degree which prepares you for job opportunities in the early childhood field. Employment opportunities are available in Head Start programs, day care programs, church-related programs, and as teacher’s assistants in the public schools. Child Development Assistant Certificate

The Child Development Assistant Program is designed for the student who plans to enter the job force immediately. The Certificate is recognized by the Oklahoma Department of Human Services, Child Care Licensing Division, as one step above the national Child Development Associate Credential (CDA). Students completing the Certificate in Child Development are prepared for employment opportunities in child care centers, family child care homes, church-related and other similar child care programs.

Corrections [option] Associate in Applied Science

The corrections program is designed for students who plan to enter the job force immediately as corrections officers for state or private prisons. The corrections degree offers students a broad background in the organization, management, and operations of corrections agencies.

Criminal Justice Associate in Applied Science

The criminal justice program has been designed to meet the needs of students who wish to enter the job market directly. After completing the required curriculum, you will receive an Associate in Applied Science degree, which prepares you for job opportunities in the law enforcement field. Careful selection of electives will also provide the opportunity to transfer to a four-year degree program in criminal justice. Crop Production [option] Certificate

The Crop Production certificate program provides students with a solid background in plant and soil sciences, precision agriculture, agriculture chemical and fertilizer applications, forage and pasture management, and agriculture business management. This certificate program prepares students to enter workforce upon graduation and is not intended for university transfer; however, some agriculture courses will count toward an Associate’s degree at WOSC and/or a Bachelor’s degree at a 4-year institution. Students should consult with an Agriculture advisor before enrolling.

Cyber Security [option] Associate in Applied Science

The Associate of Applied Science degree in Applied Technology at Western Oklahoma State College is designed for individuals that have industry recognized credentials in their chosen career field. The Cyber Security option allows individuals to utilize industry credentials and pair them with general education and guided electives in technical related courses to earn a degree. Because of the threats to computerized data and information, the need for cyber information security is at an all-time high. This degree would allow individuals to work in the cyber security position that requires at least an associate degree along with industry credentials.

Early Childhood Associate in Arts

This degree plan includes the 38 hours of general education requirements generally completed during the first two years of a fouryear educational program, along with 25 hours in child development/early childhood courses. Students completing the Associate in Science Degree may transfer to any senior-level state institution and expect to find their lower division general education requirements satisfied. Students should consult the four-year institution to which they are planning to transfer and carefully select courses that meet the requirements for that school. This can be done while working with their advisor at Western. Students completing the Associate in Science in Early Childhood Degree are prepared for employment opportunities in Head Start programs, child care centers, family child care homes, church-related child care, and as teacher’s assistants in the public schools.

Farm & Ranch Management [option] Associate in Applied Science

Farm & Ranch Management majors learn skills and practices applicable to management of farms, ranches, and other agribusinesses through classroom and laboratory experiences. All students will be required to complete an industry practicum and capstone. The Farm & Ranch Management AAS degree prepares students to enter the workforce upon graduation. Although this degree is not intended for university transfer, all general education and some agriculture courses will count toward a bachelor’s degree at a 4-year institution. The Farm and Ranch certificate program is designed to help students apply knowledge gained through the program to a career in the farming and/or ranching industry. Graphic Design [option] Associate in Applied Science

Horse Management [option] Certificate

The Horse Management certificate program places emphasis on acquisition of equine husbandry skills to prepare students for jobs in the horse industry or for management of their own farms and horses. Students completing this certificate program will be prepared for positions ranging from assistant managers of small farms to equine business-related positions in sales. All students will be required to complete an equine industry internship. This certificate program prepares students to enter workforce upon graduation and is not intended for university transfer; however, some agriculture courses will count toward an Associate’s degree at WOSC and/or a Bachelor’s degree at a 4-year institution. Liberal Arts Associate in Arts

The liberal arts degree is designed for the student who plans to transfer to a four-year institution to complete a bachelor's degree upon completion of the associate of arts degree. In addition to the general education requirements for most bachelor's degrees, the program provides a broad background in the liberal arts area. A student completing the associate of arts degree may transfer to any senior-level state institution and expect to find their lower division requirements satisfied. Military Studies Associate in Applied Science

An Associate in Applied Science Degree in Military Studies can help you advance in rank, improve your chances for commissioning programs, and improve the knowledge and skills needed for continued service and personal fulfillment. Additionally, a college degree makes you more competitive in the civilian job market.

The Military Studies program at Western Oklahoma State College is committed to providing exemplary educational opportunities to meet the needs of both the individual and the community through a curriculum that trains competent, employable individuals in a wide variety of skill specialties. Military Studies students will complete the Associate in Applied Science degree by creating a comprehensive capstone project and paper reflecting an understanding of military history, leadership, ethics, and the role of the armed forces in peacekeeping and humanitarian efforts.

Nursing Associate in Applied Science

The Nursing Program is designed for the student who plans to enter the job force immediately. After successful completion of the required curriculum, you will receive an Associate in Applied Science Degree, which prepares you for the registered nurse licensure exam. The program consists of a prerequisite semester in which students must have completed all prerequisite courses prior to admission to the nursing program. Because of the limited spaces available in this program, admission is highly competitive and completion of all general education, related, and support courses is highly recommended. To be considered for acceptance to the nursing program the student must meet certain entrance standards. Pre-Education [option] Associate in Arts

The Associate in Arts Degree in Liberal Arts with a Pre-Education option offers a degree path for students interested in teaching at the elementary grade-school level. This flexible degree plan option prepares students to transfer to a Professional Teacher Education program at a four-year college or university where the student can earn teaching certification in one of three areas: Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, or Special Education. Students interested in teaching at the high school level should talk with an advisor to see what courses would better meet those requirements. The departmental requirements vary somewhat at different senior colleges; therefore, the student is strongly urged to consult the catalog of the transfer college or university and a faculty advisor. Courses taken in these four discipline areas must be completed with a grade of “C” or higher for the course to satisfy degree requirements.
