Departmental Mission Statement
The Learning Resources Center is committed to providing open and equal access to an organized collection of information sources and instructional equipment to meet the varied informational, learning, and developmental needs of the citizens of Southwest Oklahoma. The development of information retrieval skills through the use of traditional resources combined with current technology is provided by qualified staff through a variety of instructional methods.

Lauren Zemaitis-Gipson,
Director of Library and Testing
Lauren is the current Director of Library and Testing, having joined Western in 2023. She has a wide variety of experience in academic, public, and Federal libraries. She first began her library career in Detroit, Michigan in 2010 and completed her Masters of Library and Information Science in 2012 at Wayne State University. Lauren has served in libraries and communities in Michigan, the Commonwealth of Northern Marianas Islands, Alabama, and Oklahoma.
Lauren is happy to assist students with their research and work with instructors on providing appropriate information literacy instruction for their students in both face to face and online environments. Please reach out to Lauren via email at lauren.gipson@wosc.edu
Joanne Huff,
Library Technical Assistant
Joanne began working full time as a Library Clerk in September 1996. She advanced to the position of Library Technical Assistant in July 2002. She worked part time in the LRC Computer lab for two years prior to that time. Joanne spent nearly 20 years previous to working in the LRC, serving the public in various positions within the Altus community. She completed her Associates of Applied Science degree in Library Technical Assistant from Rose State College in December 2001. Joanne acquired a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Cameron in May 2013. Joanne has been a member of the Oklahoma Library Association since 1999 and has been involved with the OLA membership committee, scholarship committee, endowment committee, University and College Division, and the OLA Gold Leadership Institute.
Joanne’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to managing the Library Automation System, Bindery, Interlibrary Loans, Serials Management, Statistics, and Inventory. Joanne enjoys working with the public and being able to help people. She also enjoys the vast array of information and knowledge that can be found in the LRC. If someone is looking for an item or information, Joanne will be happy to help patrons find what they are looking for.
